our room

Thank you for your interest

This page is for students of Seahaven Maritime Academy only.

Feel free to check out Dandelion Charm but please don’t share the link to this private page, thank you.

The room is in our family home. Our kids have left so it's myself (Clare), my husband (John) and our lodger Alex living here.

We also have a handsome young cat.

We are a non smoking household.

There is a bathroom and a shower room both of which are shared, so no en-suites I'm afraid.

The room is £30 per night including breakfast.

Please let us know if you have got any particular dietary requirements. We usually provide cereals, fruit, and toast for breakfast with tea/coffee.

To secure your booking we like half the total payment up front as a deposit and then the balance on the day before you leave us. Alternatively if you want to send the whole lot up front that’s ok too.

Our address is

20 Hillcrest Road

NEWHAVEN

BN9 9EE

We are 15 minutes walk from the station (Newhaven Town) and aprox 25 minutes walk to the college site in the harbour. That's my estimation but see what Google maps says.

My number is 07983438885

When you have decided that you want to stay here let me know and I will send bank transfer details. Please also let me know when you have arranged your travel so I have an idea what time you will arrive.

“Staying in Clares home for the duration of my STCW has been so enjoyable. The location was ideal (20 min walk from the school and from Newhaven train station), the price was very affordable and her hospitality was above and beyond what I expected. The room is spacious and the bed was comfortable, I had my own key and there was a bathroom very conveniently right next door. Every morning Clare prepared breakfast for me (included in the fee). Upon arrival I was given towels and everything I needed to feel at home. Her home was very tidy and I would definitely stay with her next time I need to refresh any of my courses. She also catered for the fact that I was a vegan which was a lovely touch.”

“I had a lovely stay at Clares house, the room was lovely and spacious, the location and walk to Seahaven was ideal. I would say around 20mins or 25 if taking it slow. I was made to feel very welcome at the house, the breakfast provided was also amazing, like staying in a hotel!! Also loved the company of Chops their little cat :) Thanks for the stay guys :)” Kelly.

My stay at Clare’s was a wonderful experience. Although it was a quick stopover, I felt comfortable and cared-for in her lovely home. The house is located in a quiet street that looks over Newhaven Harbour, where you can watch the ferry come and go. I had my own key, so I was able to walk to the shop that was very close by. The room was very clean, and decorated lovingly with a view of the beautiful garden. The bed was very comfortable too with a bathroom just next door! In the morning, Clare provided breakfast of toast (with a wide variety of toppings!) and cereal with fresh fruit, and catered for me as a vegetarian, which was lovely. Clare is a fantastic host, always smiling and any questions or queries I had would always be answered. She really went above and beyond expectation to make sure I had a peaceful and enjoyable stay in her beautiful home.

“It was amazing staying at Clare’s room (house). The room is exactly what it looks like on the pictures from the website - it is very clean, tidy and comfortable. Their house is a good walking distance (20-30 minutes, depending on your pace) from Seahaven training centre. This walk will definitely warm you up for the training each day.

Clare and her husband are very hospitable and accommodating. I felt as if I never left home. Upon my arrival, Clare picked me up from Newhaven Town station then showed me the path where I need to walk towards Seahaven training centre. She also prepares breakfast and it is something I look forward to every morning. Also, Clare drove me to Seahaven beach for a quick swim after a fun and hard day at Seahaven. On my last day, Clare then drove me to Seahaven training centre. What can I say, Clare is a very lovely person and I am so lucky I stayed at her house while attending my SCTW training.

P.S. I recommend you staying at Clare’s place, you’ll never regret it.”

" I stayed at Clare's house for a week to do my STCW course and enjoyed staying there a lot! The room was really cozy and very clean! Clare is a great host and you will not be hungry after breakfast with loads to choose from, fruits, nuts, granola, toasts, coffee ,tea ...! Worth to stay here and the price is very good too! Needless to say, I stayed in contact with her and if If come back to the UK I will for sure stay at her place again!"

Clare’s house was very very beautiful, like an art gallery with all the beautiful paintings and pictures all around the house. It was super comfy with a spectacular view of the sun rise in the morning over the ocean, (weather permitting). It was a great way to start my day with the bonus of delicious porridge with lovely accompaniments and coffee. A great way to start the morning for the course I was doing in the marina in Newhaven. The location is perfect being 8 minutes from the train station and the supermarkets and just a 20 min walk to the Maritime Academy. Clare and John were such lovely hosts and very relaxed and chatty so it really felt like I was at home. I would totally recommend their beautiful home for a stay and I certainly will be back in the future, thank you very much x
